  The Dark Knight

Columbus, Ohio. Midnight. The wonderful Marcus Crosswoods Theatre. 12 screens, all sold out, and here we are to see this film that has been flooding the market like a hurricane for who knows how long at this point. Needless to say I was pretty excited to be in my seat, maybe not as much as the freaks dressed up as Batman, or as excited as I was for Superman (he is more my style, eye lasers) but I was pumped.

When the film finally started I was lost within Gotham. Christopher Nolan does that better than anyone so far, makes me loose myself within the picture and become totally immersed within the story that he is telling. The Joker is unspeakably good. I kept trying to see Heath Ledger the entire time I was watching and all I could see was The Joker. I think the rumors are right that he should be nominated for an Oscar, and no performance so far give him any sort of competition. Christian Bale is the best Batman period, and this type of morbidly dark and serious Batman is here to stick.

As far as bad about this movie I would have to say that there are only two things that I didn't like, the marketing and Maggie Gyllenhaal. First, the marketing for me was just too much. I knew what the Joker looked like over a year ago. I've seen so many trailers and posters and viral sites that it was making my head spin. I was glad the movie came out just so I could finally not have to read six new articles on how this film was going to cure cancer. And Maggie Gyllenhaal? Did she age like 20 years since Stranger than Fiction? Her looks went somewhere, and that somewhere I wouldn't go, let alone Bruce Wayne.

All in all this is the best movie of the summer. I was tired going in, and tired coming out but wide awake the entire film. I predict it will smash the opening weekend records and possibly beat out Return of the King in all time US gross. Warner Brothers has one hell of a franchise on their hands, and this time around it is an insane ride to be on.
