  Mideast Midwest DVD Review

Sometimes you see a film that really makes you think. This short makes you think that if the director can move me this much in under fifteen minutes, I wonder what 90 will do.

Usually I don't post reviews on shorts (usually because they suck) but this one stands far above a ton of features that I have seen. Shot in Detroit with a skeleton crew and a massive cast I caught this film by mistake down at the Athens Film Festival in Ohio. Honestly, I usually bounce around the "short blocks" at festivals because most wannabe filmmakers who actually drag me along for more that a half hour actually make me want to commit myself to a mental institution, the short ones often don't drive me to rip out my eyes. Like a breath of fresh air from the short insanities this film popped on the screen, and despite the flaws of the student projectionists, it left me with wanting to see more from this small group.

Mideast Midwest moves along at a fast pace, giving a view of Detroit and America from the eyes of a young man who means to put our freedoms and ideas at risk. We move along this wonderfully scary tale as this young man draws parallels from our home in rust belt to his home in the middle east. The narration takes you to new levels in thinking, opening ones eyes to seeing the west in the fresh light of war.

The cinematography alone is more than enough reason to check out this film, but the writing and story are top notch as well. There are times when you can catch a group who is doing something that is really wonderful to sink into, and knowing that there is much more to come from these guys makes it all the more exciting. This is definately one film to check out, and one team to keep an eye on, there are absolutely great things to come from them.

Be sure to check out mideastmidwest.com and buy this flick, you wont regret it.

Comments:
I have to agree with you on this one. The car hijacking was very good. That women being dragged out of her car really played her part well. The look of terror on her face was an award winning look.
