Two and a Half Men – Season 4

Ducky asked me to sit in and write a review for him this time. Plus he gave me the DVDs to one of my favorite TV shows so I said what the hell, I’ll give it a try.

I didn’t start watching Two and a Half Men till summer rerun time before season 3. I thought it would just be another dumb comedy and I didn’t want to waste my time. Man, was I wrong. This turned out to be one of the funniest shows I’ve watched in a long time. My wife and I now watch all of them along with all the reruns so we’ve seen every episode at least twice.

If you have never seen this show then you don’t know what you’re missing. You should either run out and get seasons 1-3 first to get caught up, or watch all of the reruns that are on all the time. Or, just start with the season 4 DVDs and get hooked anyway.

The show stars Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper, a single playboy jingle writer that tries to have sex with almost every woman he meets. Jon Cryer plays his brother Alan who has been thrown out of his house by his wife, (and I think must be the gayest straight guy around) and Angus T. Jones plays Alan’s son Jake who stays with Charlie and Alan on weekends. The amount of stuff Charlie and Alan try to get past Jake and all the sex jokes the shows' creators Lee Aronsohn and Chuck Lorre try to get by the censors, make for a lot of great comedy. I’m always amazed with what they get by with.

The season 4 DVD set begins with the episode where Alan’s second wife, Kandi played by April Bowlby (one very hot lady), has thrown him out of the house and Alan begs Charlie to let him move back in and ends with the episode where Charlie and Alan’s mother Evelyn, played by Holland Taylor, meets her future 5th husband Teddy played by Robert Wagner. This story line is continued in season 5.

To tell the truth, I buy DVDs of TV shows that are still on the air for one thing. Gag reels. I love them and this one has a great gag reel along with the 24 episodes from season 4. I always thought gag reels were one way to really judge the actors and also see what they have to go through to create entertainment for the rest of us.

My recommendation for this DVD set is to buy it, watch it and laugh your ass off, and then give it to some person that needs to lighted up. You’ll make their day.
